Bài gửiTiêu đề: Tổng hợp tư liệu (bài báo/bài viết/review...) về Adam   Fri Sep 04 2009, 00:22

First topic message reminder :

Part 1: http://www.out.com/detail.asp?page=1&id=26191
Part 2: http://www.out.com/detail.asp?page=1&id=26192

Bài báo trong USAtoday, cũng cực kì hay:
http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2009-11-18-lambert18_CV_N.htm

Nhất là trong mấy bài này Adam nói nhiều về cảm xúc tình yêu của mình, đặc biệt là những đoạn như

Trích dẫn :
Then you have to balance that with being away so much, being on tour.

So who knows, you know? The other thing that’s really hard is that you have to decide whether or not you have the focus and the energy to give to the other person. That’s a difficult thing, too. And who knows what the future could hold with that. I might have to say, “You know, this is how much I love you, that I have to let you go. I can’t give you what you deserve right now, so this isn’t going to work.” Hopefully it works. I want it to. But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. Out of the love I have for him, I don’t want to neglect it. [Sighs.] God, I can’t believe I’m saying all this. I think we put all these expectations on relationships and create this idea of, oh, this is how it’s supposed to be, because this is what all these other relationships that I see, that’s how they are. I think it’s really hard but really necessary to be like, but what are my needs? And what are your needs? And that’s our relationship. And that’s the hardest thing, because no one tells you how to do that.

Trích dẫn :
While secure in his career vision and aims, Lambert says his recent split from interior designer Drake LaBry has left him uncertain of his romantic path. “My life has changed so much, I’m not sure what my needs are anymore,” he says. “At the moment, it’s probably difficult to have a relationship. I’m going to be doing a lot of growing in the next couple years. I’ve only been in two relationships, and really, really in love just one time. That’s one part of my life I’m learning about – my heart.

Trích dẫn :
"You know, it’s funny. I’ve figured out a lot about life, and I have a lot of life experience, but I don’t know sh!t about love."

Adam 27 tuổi, mới chỉ có 2 relationship và thực sự yêu có đúng 1 lần (chắc là Cheeks rồi). "I have a lot of life experience, but I don’t know sh!t about love." Awwwww Đọc mà chỉ muốn ôm anh

em thích cái đoạn này trong OUT nà. A rất là thành thật
"I have to say, I didn’t really expect to see someone on Idol tour jerking off a mic stand.
You
know what was really funny about that -- a woman came up to me in the
autograph line and was like, “This is a family show. You need to make
this more appropriate.” And I looked at her and said, “I don’t need a
lecture from you.” I kinda smiled and she was like, “But there’s little
girls in the audience.” I said to her, “They probably don’t know what
I’m doing. You do. They don’t know what I’m doing. They just think I’m
playing with my mic! They don’t know that I’m jerking off. They don’t
get that yet. Come on! And, if they do, then…sorry.”"
Sis holly coi cái này chưa http://www.planetfierce.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=single&action=display&thread=170&page=1

from Maddie at AWOP; the bolded parts are my edits. Maddie is the "I", NOT ME!!

OK, I have this huge SECRET that I’ve been keeping for two weeks, and I was dying to tell everyone, but I couldn't, for professional reasons. But now I can FIANLLY reveal it:

I. INTERVIEWED. ADAM. LAMBERT.

Yes, I did! It was a phone interview, and it lasted only 15 minutes, but it was glorious. It happened on January 14th, the day after the Oprah taping. His assistant called me at home at 7 pm. When the phone rang, I was so nervous I could barely breathe. For the first 30 seconds, I had no idea what I was doing. But then, everything fell into place, and we talked, and we laughed, and it was so easy and so delicious I couldn’t believe it. He was as delightful as I thought he would be!!!! (TM Oprah) Best of all, I think I managed not to gush over him (much, anyway)!

The interview was for Serafina, which is a Sunday magazine of one of the biggest newspapers in Brazil. Unfortunately, the article is only one page long. I do think it works, though: the idea is to present Adam to the brazilian readers, who never heard of him and probably never watched American Idol. The focus is on how controversial he is, plus talented, plus hot... Here’s the scan. Thanks for the help, CJ!!!

beginning of the article:
What king am I?
Black hair, eyeliner, leather jacket, black nail polish. The guy on the picture, with his emo-punk look, is the new phenomenon in American pop music. The 28 year old singer appeared in a lot of the Best of 2009 lists (Time magazine included him in the 10 personalities of the year; he was 10th in the Sexiest Men Alive list of People; and he was the third most important male artist of the year, according to MTV). With a voice of incredible range (many compared him to Freddie Mercury), a strong sex appeal and a natural talent to create controversy, he has been called the male version of Lady Gaga, or the love child of Elvis and Madonna.

translation of interview:
Thank you for taking your time to talk to me. I understand you’ve been really busy lately.
Oh, it’s my pleasure.

You realize you have lots of fans here in Brazil.
I’ve seen it on Twitter, I’ve seen tweets coming in from people from Brazil and I’m like: “What! I can’t wait to go, I wanna go visit!” I’m so excited to come there.

You should come to Mardi Gras, in February. It’s fabulous, lots of people covered in glitter and feathers, dancing and partying. It’s amazing, you should come!
Sounds like my kind of party! When in February is it?

From 12 to 16th of Februay. What do you know about Brazil?
I don’t know a lot, no!

American Idol is not very popular here. Not a lot of people watch it. Do you think it’s a good platform for young artists in United States?

Definitely. I think there’s no other program like that here in the States where you’ve got that many people being exposed to. It’s very difficult to make it in the music industry nowadays because there’s so much to choose from. And so, the fact that I had so many people watching me thankfully allowed to make a record that they’re waiting for, you know? That’s amazing.

But doing well on the program doesn’t guarantee your success, right?

Yeah, but it definitely gives you a fair shot, a fair chance. I’m only trying to do the best that I can, and see if that works, you know?

How would you present yourself to the Brazilians who have never heard your music?

I think the music video and the song speak for themselves. The music video for FYE is very theatrical, sexy, and it’s like underground club scene, and it’s all about dancing late at night and I think people will enjoy it.

Some people compare you to Lady Gaga, do you like the comparison?
Oh, I think it’s a great compliment. She’s a good musician, she’s creative, she likes theatrics. We’re from the same family, yeah.

Do you think Fever will ever be a single?
Yeah, I actually think it could be. We’re looking at it as a possibility. A very very strong possibility.

Some people think that because you sing “There he goes”, that it could be a problem, that some people would refuse to play the song.
Maybe in United States, but I have a feeling that in the rest of the world, no one will care. (laughs)

I’m sure in Brazil no one will care.

I think I live in the most conservative country that we really have to worry about.

I think you do. It’s like, all that AMAs controversy, what was that all about?

I don’t know, I think people get scared of things they are not used to seeing. It was all meant to be in good fun, you know, theatrical, silly and crazy. I think people took me too seriously.

Like you are a threat to good costumes or something.
Yeah! I don’t know why it’s threatening, it’s not that big of a deal. But that’s the thing about my country. People get more scared by two men kissing than they do by a bunch of people walking around with guns. I mean, that’s how we live. (laughs)

But do you worry about that? Are you concerned that homophobia might be a problem, that people won’t play some of your songs because of that?

Well, it’s a slow and steady progress. I think it’s definitely an issue, but I try to not worry too much about it, just try to be myself. If people like it, then they like it, if they don’t like it, then they don’t like it. (laughs) It’s more important to me to be truthful to who I am than for me to try to please everybody. You can’t please everybody.

Some people even suggested, oh, he should change the lyrics of “Fever” to a “she”.

Actually, it’s funny, Lady Gaga and I talked about that, when we were recording the song. She said, “What do you think?”. “Well, I like it.” And she said, “I like it too. Of course, there are gonna be people who are going to have issues with it.” And I said, “Yeah”, and she said, “Do you care?”, I said, “No. Let’s do it!”.

Do you think that will be a problem only in USA?
Mostly in the United States. You know, ultimately, it is what it is.

Talking about the AMAs, some people said, oh, he just likes to be the center of attention. He just kissed his bass player because he likes to create controversy and get coverage by the media, and that’s been done before, so what’s new.
Of course I like to be the center of attention, why do you think I do this for a living? (laughs). It has been done before, but it’s never been done by a boy! With another boy! I didn’t think about it at the time, but now looking at it in hindsight, perhaps it’s proving a point.

Yes. You didn’t think the reaction was going to be that strong.
No, not at all. My intention was not to upset anybody, obviously. I didn’t think it was going to be as controversial. Because that’s the thing, because for me, with my friends, the types of parties and clubs and areas that I go to, something like that is not...people are not scared of that where I come from. There are places here in United States where that is very very scary. But I don’t live in those places, and I don’t know those types of people...

Thank God!

Yeah, thank God! So in a way, I kind of took if for granted.

You talk a lot about doing glam rock, glam pop. What’s glam to you?.
Glam, back in the seventies, was people like David Bowie, and T. Rex, and Sweet. Glam is rock’n’roll, but it has...it’s dressed up, it’s being very flamboyant with your style, and your manners, and your persona. Using make up and fancy clothing. In think nowadays there are a lot of female artists that embody that spirit. People like Lady Gaga, Kate Perry, that kind of over the top theatrical over -the-top performer. I try to bring that spirit back to my music.

But, like you said, there’s no male artist doing that. So is there space for it, do you think?
Yeah, that’s kind of what I was going for, something that we don’t have right now. Back in the seventies and eighties we had artists like David Bowie, and Prince, and Boy George, and Adam Ant, and even Michael Jackson at times, that were giving you high fashion, very glamorous make up and hair, we just don’t have those figures right now. And I love that style, I think it’s so different, and I think that teenagers and kids and adults of all kind need to see that as an option, you know?

People need entertainment and that’s what you intend to do.
Yeah, I’m here for your entertainment and that’s part of the beauty of entertainment as escapism. If you have your life, and you have worries, and stresses, it’s nice to be able to throw in your CD or your video and kind of forget about your problems for a minute.

You’ve got this fine instrument that some people call THE VOICE. And it’s been compared to Freddie Mercury and Steven Tyler. Anyway, I think you’re better than those two.
Awwwwww.

You are. How do you see it? Do you feel like it’s a gift, that you have to use well, or something you worked very long and hard to get to where you are right now?
I think a little bit of both. I definitely, early on, went, “Oh, I can sing! I don’t know how that happened!” (laughs) And I do think that it’s a gift, and I think that, for whatever reason, this is why I’m here. I’m here to do this. That’s my purpose. At the same time I have worked hard on it. I did take lessons when as a kid, for singing, and I’ve been singing for a long time, and learning a lot about my voice, and recording, learning how it sounds recorded. So yeah, it’s both.

2009 has been quite a year. Not so long ago, you were singing at small clubs, doing the Upright Cabaret show, now you are talking to Oprah. Do you wake up in the morning thinking, OMG, I can’t believe this is happening.

Yeah, I do. I think for a while there, like all last year, before this all started, I thought to myself, I want more out of my life, I want to do more, I want to challenge myself, I want to travel, I want something new. And...I got it! (laughs)

You got it!
I got a lot of it.

But it has a price, right?
Yeah. I mean, it’s entirely worth it, let’s put it that way, it’s worth every moment of it, I would never trade it. But there are times...it’s a lot of work, you know? It’s a lot more work than people realize it is. And it can be a little bit lonely, because when you leave the house, and you are chased by paparazzi everywhere you go...Sometimes I don’t even wanna go out. I’m gonna stay home tonight because I don’t wanna deal with it. So it can be isolating.

You said this to RS: “Private lives don’t exist anymore for celebrities”.

Yeah, it’s hard on your private life. But, the way I look at it, I had my entire twenties to have a private life. (laughs)

Oh, don’t say that!.You said lots of times that this is a dream come true, but you certainly have more dreams. No that you’ve got this far, what is your wildest dream, what do you want to achieve? What else?
I think I just want longevity. I want to keep going. I want to be able keep doing it. So often in the music industry someone puts out an album and then...it goes away, like, it doesn’t work, people don’t buy it, and they get dropped by the label, and they don’t have a way of making music anymore. So I think my big goal is, I just wanna to be able to keep doing it.

Are you planning a tour right now?

There’s definitely going to be a tour at some point. I’m not sure what the details are, we haven’t decided it yet.

But you have an idea. You told EW that you wanted to do a something more intimate.

Yeah, if it works, if I have my thing, I want to do a solo tour, in smaller venues and have it be like a very interactive, intimate experience, you know? 500 people, to a thousand people. And really put on a show that they can see every detail, and they can really appreciate it.

Do you have plans for movies? TV series? Do you have any invitations?

I would very much love to do movies or TV. No invitations yet, but there’s definitely some ideas floating around, so there’s interest. Let’s see what happens.

(His personal assistant says it’s over, I have to wrap it up)
Just one last thing, then: thank you for being such an inspiration for so many people, myself included.
Awwww, thank you, thank you very much, I appreciate that.

And hopefully I’ll see you soon here in Brazil.
Yeah, definitely, I can’t wait to go visit!

Thank you. Bye.

Adam Lambert celebrates his birthday and the Grammy - in style

If there were an award for busiest non-performer or presenter on Grammy night, it might have to go to Adam Lambert. Last year's "American Idol" runner-up spent most of his time on Sunday's red carpet working it, as the special fashion correspondent for "Entertainment Tonight." Among the pop stars who made their way to Adam's corner: Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Katy Perry and the Black Eyed Peas.

The one-off gig capped off a jam-packed weekend that included the star-studded Clive Davis party on Saturday and his own 28th birthday blow-out at the Mondrian Hotel the night prior, which was attended by fellow season 8 finalists Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai, Lil Rounds and Megan Joy, as well as Slash and Lindsay Lohan, with Samantha Ronson manning the turntables. Before that, Adam spent most of Friday making the downtown L.A. rounds, hitting the official Grammy gift lounge, doing a few interviews and, suffice it to say, posing for hundreds of photos.

Whew! No wonder he looked exhausted (but still dashing) when we caught up with him at the end of the carpet. Here's some of what he had to say about Grammy fashions and Gaga.

How did your "ET" responsibilities go today?

It was fun! It was a great way for me to interact with my fellow peers in the recording industry, even though I'm just the new kid on the block. I got to talk about what I love, which is music and fashion. It was a nice little job that I got, and I think that the women especially appreciated that it was me reviewing them and not some catty woman.

Did you have to prep much for the job?

No prep. I like talking to people, and it was nice to switch positions and be the one asking the questions for a change. It was refreshing and also good for perspective. It can be tiring.

The Grammys are known for outrageous fashions ...

That's one of the things I liked most about it. At the Grammy Awards, people shouldn't dress traditionally; they should express themselves and go out on a limb. People like Lady Gaga, of course, wearing a strange avant-garde fashion installation around her body. I'm loving that; good for her!

Did you talk to Gaga?

Unfortunately, I didn't get to talk to her, but I did get to see it, and I yelled her name and we made eye contact. I think I got a slight smirk; it was like an inside smile, because Gaga was in character.

Do you think there's a philosophy or narrative behind all her kooky outfits?

If there is, I'm not aware of it. I think it's just art. It's like looking at a great painting -- it's pretty and interesting because it is. She puts thought into the dimensions, the dynamics, the colors, the proportions. ... It's definitely high art and high fashion.

Who did you get to gab with?

It was nice to connect with Pink, who's responsible for my hit song right now. I've only seen her a couple times. She looked great and was so sweet. I love Katy Perry. She and I are friends, and we've hung out before in social situations; she always has such a great sense of humor. I saw Kesha, who I also love. The Black Eyed Peas, I think they're so stylish; they always look cool.

Taylor Swift?

Yeah, I don't know her that well. I've only met her once in passing, but she's so well-spoken and sweet. I just haven't really been up on her music, but lovely girl.

Tell us a little about your birthday party. We heard Rihanna was coming?

It was amazing. She was going to try to go, but she didn't make it, unfortunately. Samantha Ronson was my DJ, and she did a great job. It was a fun night.

How late did you stay out?

I had a suite upstairs at the Mondrian, and we stayed up till about 5. I had a bunch of people over; we continued the party well until the wee hours. It was a big year, I had to celebrate it appropriately.

Adam Lambert, The New Face Of Glam Rock
From The Times
February 4, 2010
Malcolm Mackenzie

Adam Lambert is a new kind of star who on first glance resembles exactly an old one. Onstage he lurches like Mick Jagger, glitter-slick face like David Bowie, with a belting Robert Plant yelp, yet the larger-than-life Lambert is being touted as the yang to the yin of Lady Gaga. He is also, importantly, the first openly gay mainstream pop artist to launch a career on a major label in America.

Even more remarkable is the fact that he found fame on American Idol, a reality star-search format usually responsible for unearthing a succession of plain boys and interchangeable girls. Indeed, the 28-year-old Californian came second in the contest last year to the wholesome-looking Kris Allen. But he has been warmly embraced by his newly met peers. Madonna’s inspirational pep talk during Lambert’s brief visit chez Ciccone was: “Keep your eye on the prize, don’t get wrapped up in what people are saying. ” When Lady Gaga was called in to work on the track she wrote for Lambert she whipped out the whisky and got him drunk. “She was basically pushing and encouraging me like a cheerleader: ‘Yeah, more, more!’ ”

The credits on his debut album For Your Entertainment read like a Grammy Awards guest list. Apart from Lady Gaga, Pink, Matt Belamy from Muse and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo provided songs. For Your Entertainment is a shamelessly camp and eclectic confection of irresistible pop, with ozone-puncturing vocals yanking listeners hither and thither with nods to Goldfrapp, Scissor Sisters and the Darkness — but then the leotard-loving Justin Hawkins did write the opening track, Music Again. Lambert describes his record as “Seventies and Eighties rock-glam put into a time capsule and blasted off into the future”, which is a nice way of putting it.

Being the first of anything can come with its complications and controversy, something Lambert has done little to curtail. He has ruffled feathers straight and gay; fallen out with US television networks and ignited a public war of words with the editor of Out, the leading US gay magazine, who published an open letter criticising Lambert after an interview he did with the publication.

His most controversial escapade came at the American Music Awards last November when the former Broadway chorus boy snogged a male member of his band and simulated oral sex with a dancer while performing his ironically titled debut single, For Your Entertainment. Lambert says he got carried away, but won’t be drawn into the faux contrition beloved of US television. “The one regret I have is, I wish I had sung it better,” he deadpans, eyes glinting beneath thick wads of mascara.

The backlash from the performance was considerable. ABC, the network that broadcast the show, received 1,500 complaints (out of 14 million viewers) and TV appearances by Lambert were cancelled. When he was invited to defend himself on air, even he was surprised by the fuss. “They pulled me off Good Morning America [on ABC] and two days later I was on a different early morning show on a different network. They showed a clip of Madonna and Britney Spears kissing [at the 2003 MTV Awards] and right afterwards a clip of me kissing a guy — and they blurred it out. It was hypocritical and ridiculous.” Rod Stewart, asked to comment on Lambert’s performance, said: “There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s rock and’n’roll." So how did this out American pop star fall out with Out? Miscommunication. “The editor basically criticised my management, claiming they were puppeteering me and trying to control how gay I seemed. The truth is I expressed to my publicist before I did the interview that I didn’t want to speak about gay political issues because I don’t know enough about them. I’m an entertainer, not a politician; I have no problem talking about my love life.”

For the record, Lambert is single and not looking for a long-term relationship. “My heart craves that, but now is not the time for it. So in the meantime I’m gonna have fun. I love a torrid affair." His large female fanbase blows his mind, he says. “I’m openly gay so they know I’m not going to have sex with a woman — although,” he says, pausing to give the idea some serious thought, “ I like making out with girls from time to time. I have this curiosity at the back of my mind. I’ve never had sex with a woman and I’m a little bit curious about it.”

Lambert grew up in a conservative neighbourhood of San Diego, California, to liberal parents. To give an outlet to his burgeoning, cape-swishing love of Andrew Lloyd Webber, they enrolled their ten-year-old son in a theatre group. The defining moment came four years later, when he performed in Fiddler on the Roof and blew the audience away. “Everybody hushed and there was a murmur — I could feel it, and it felt incredible. It was very validating for me, especially because I didn’t have very high self-esteem.”

It took a long time for him to accrue confidence. In high school he suffered from acne and put on an enormous amount of weight, reaching nearly 18 stone. “The minute puberty set in I became this bizarre ugly duckling weird kid that didn’t have any friends.”

The insecure young Lambert was something of a late bloomer sexually — losing his virginity at 21, falling in love for the first time at 25 — and in his career. He appeared in low-key plays, worked on cruise ships and toured Europe in musicals. Then came American Idol. “I figured if I could get on Idol I would play the show, I wouldn’t let the show play me. They took a chance and after the first couple of episodes I became more and more embraced and they facilitated what I wanted to do.”

What Lambert wanted to do was sing his heart out and put on a show: “Wardrobe, staging, song selection — it’s got to be more than just the voice. Theatricality is back in pop — the end.”

Lambert recalls a couple of Simon Cowell put-downs that missed the mark. One was simply that he was very theatrical, “as if to say that’s not a good thing”, Lambert smirks. For his second, Mr Nasty told the singer that he felt as though he was watching Rocky Horror, to which Lambert replied: “I love that movie. Thank you.”

Cowell may not have got it at first, but it’s amazing the clarity that dollar signs bring. The man known across the internet as Glambert is a force to be reckoned with. His appearance on the cover of Rolling Stone gave it its best-selling issue of the year, while his debut album has sold more than half a million copies in America and entered the UK charts on imports alone.

“It is nice to get reinforcement from friends, strangers, other artists going, ‘What you’re doing is groundbreaking’,” he says. “But it’s hard to hear grand statements like that. I’m the same guy that's been kicking around LA for eight years.”

Even so he’s keen to clear up any remaining misapprehensions about himself. “It’s not a character I’m hiding behind,” he says. “I’m vain and I like looking hot and pretty. But I’m not that confident. I used to be scared to take risks and I was scared of rejection.” These days, 500,000 records sold, and counting, might help with that.

The single For Your Entertainment is released on April 19 by RCA. The album is out on April 26.

Adam Lambert talks not looking for real love and making out with ladies for fun
Adam Lambert may be on a quest to take over the world, but the “American Idol” runner-up isn’t looking for a man to join him on his journey and in his heart — at least, not yet.

“My heart craves that,” he told the U.K.‘s Times newspaper, referring to a long-term relationship. “But now is not the time for it. So in the meantime I’m gonna have fun. I love a torrid affair.”

And the singer said he’s not opposed to lip locking with one or two of his female fans, despite being gay.

“I’m openly gay so they know I’m not going to have sex with a woman — although,” he told the mag with a pause, “ I like making out with girls from time to time. I have this curiosity at the back of my mind. I’ve never had sex with a woman and I’m a little bit curious about it.”

The “For Your Entertainment” singer said the man people have fallen for to the tune of more than 500,000 records sold, according to the newspaper, isn’t just an image, it’s the real Adam.

“It’s not a character I’m hiding behind,” he said. “I’m vain and I like looking hot and pretty. But I’m not that confident. I used to be scared to take risks and I was scared of rejection.”

In fact, as a young man in high school, Adam said he was chubby, suffered from acne and had trouble fitting in.

“The minute puberty set in I became this bizarre ugly duckling weird kid that didn’t have any friends,” he admitted.

Nowadays, the former “ugly duckling” gets compliments all the time, and not surprisingly, he still takes them with a grain of salt.

“It is nice to get reinforcement from friends, strangers, other artists going, ‘What you’re doing is groundbreaking’,” he said. “But it’s hard to hear grand statements like that. I’m the same guy that’s been kicking around LA for eight years.”

Adam Lambert's album goes gold while American Idol sees Adam Lambert "effect" on contestants

Adam Lambert is officially a golden child. His debut album, "For Your Entertainment", has now sold over 500,000 copies and that makes the album Gold. Adam Lambert's album debuted at number three on the Billboard Top 100 Chart and has never fallen below the top fifty since it was introduced. Considering the decline of music sales that has been occurring in general, it is an amazing accomplishment for Adam Lambert, the new and young entertainer.

"For Your Entertainment" was originally released on November 23, 2009. Adam Lambert's debut album has only been available for purchase for eleven weeks. In all of the calendar yea 2009 only seven albums sold over a million copies, so it would seem that the Adam Lambert album is well on its way to official success status.

As another point of reference, Kris Allen, who actually won American Idol last season, has also recently released an album. Its sales remain far below the half million sold by Adam Lambert, Kris's album has sol just 255,000 copies at this time.

On Amazon.com, "For Your Entertainment" is the 57th highest selling album. It is also the 18th highest selling album in the Rock category, and the 56th highest selling album in the Pop category on Amazon. Meanwhile the recently released single by Adam Lambert, "Whataya Want From Me" is doing really well on it's own and is currently placed at number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs.

While his album is doing great and his career is taking off the new season of American Idol has begun and an interesting trend is being seen in the contestants. When asked about an Adam Lambert "effect" American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi said, "I think that people were interpreting songs from the get-go in audition week. They weren't just singing them the way they were sung by the people who originally recorded them. They were kind of taking some risks, and I like that. And maybe that is because of Adam (Lambert)."

So is there an Adam Lambert "effect" this year on American Idol? I think so. There are many Idol contestants this year that have put their own interpretation on the songs they are choosing to sing. America loved it last year as Adam Lambert dazzled us each week with his own unique renditions of well-known songs and the judges liked Adam and his interpretation too - at least most of the time. Maybe that is why so many American Idol contestants are including that in their auditions this far.

adam : the kids understand!
http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/Music/03/01/adam.lambert.eastla.charity/

Los Angeles, California (CNN) --
At any given time, it's hard to hide a 6-foot-1-inch man wearing eyeliner. It's even more difficult when that man is Adam Lambert and you're trying to prevent 2,400 middle school students from discovering that he's set foot on their campus.

And so, the 2009 "American Idol" runner-up waited patiently in an underground parking garage until the bell rang, and then he quickly made his way to Mrs. Fuller's Contemporary Rock Band class.

The 28-year-old entertainer opened the door to the classroom and poked his head in. "Hey, guys! Hi!" he exclaimed as 45 budding musicians whistled and pounded on their desks in a teenage show of welcome.

Lambert made the surprise visit to Belvedere Middle School in East Los Angeles to drop off school supplies. His fans had raised more than $290,000 for DonorsChoose.org, a nonprofit Web site where teachers can sign up for materials not provided by their school district. In this case, Sarah Fuller, the school's music director, had requested 1,000 keyboard batteries and 1,000 guitar strings.

"I posted the battery grant, and in three weeks, it got funded. I was like, 'Woo hoo, yay!' " she exclaimed. "Before that, I would have to go after them on my own, and I'd have to charge the kids two dollars for the batteries and a dollar for every string that you break."

Powered by fresh batteries and new guitar strings, the students accompanied Lambert as he sang his current single, "Whataya Want From Me."

"It's about vulnerability and emotional confusion and hope," Lambert explained. In other words, it's a perfect tune for teens in the process of discovering who they are.

CNN: Did you take music when you were in school?

Adam Lambert: In middle school, I really didn't have music, but in high school, I remember taking a lot of choir and drama.

CNN: How do you think it changed your life as a student?

Lambert: I didn't feel like I fit in, especially in middle school. That was the particular three years that I felt really unsure of who I was, and I didn't have a lot of friends. But in the few art classes that I took, that's where I felt like I was good at something. It gave me confidence. I made friends through it, and it gave me a sense of belonging.

It's a really important part of being in school and developing as an adolescent -- and as a teenager, it's finding what makes you happy, finding hobbies and finding things that make you feel good about what you can do. And anything we can do as a community to help support those classes and those opportunities, I think we need to take them.

CNN: How did you get your fan base to give?

Lambert: DonorsChoose.org is a great Web site. Basically, teachers post like little ads for materials that they need, like, "We need 30 pairs of headphones that's going to cost this much money." The donor can go on and choose what they want to support, so they can see exactly where their money is going, and it's obviously tax-deductible and all that.

CNN: A lot of the kids were familiar with you from "American Idol." Were they a little self-conscious about meeting you?

Lambert: There were a few who didn't want to make eye contact, but then I started getting into a conversation over here about my hair color and what it was like and how old I am, and we bonded over in the corner.

CNN: Your album release got off with a big bang because of your performance on "The American Music Awards." Video

Lambert: It was a big bang, all right.

CNN: Do you think that ultimately helped you, or do you think it hurt you?

Lambert: I don't really know yet. I think it's yet to be seen. I think ultimately, I was being myself, and I think fans who like what I do saw that, and if it was something that they didn't like, then they didn't like it. Apples and oranges.

CNN: Do you have any regrets?

Lambert: No, no regrets. I think the one thing people need to know is, I do things song by song. That's how I competed on "Idol." Each song I approached a certain way, and it had its own energy. That's where my theater background comes out. I like to interpret songs and almost act out the music, and so with that song ("For Your Entertainment"), it was about risque topics, so I wanted to act out those topics.

Every song has a different vibe. I don't want people to walk away thinking I'm a one-trick pony, and all I do is shock -- sex stuff. You know, that was for that song.

CNN: Did any of the kids ask you about the controversies?

Lambert: See, that's the funny thing. None of the kids asked me about controversies, because I don't think the kids really care. I think it's the parents that care.

CNN: Did the school care?

Lambert: Not from what I heard, no. A lot of people were upset over that performance because they were thinking, "Oh, my God, the children!" But what is so funny to me is that by making such a big deal out of it, they drew more attention to it, and the children can see anything they want on the Internet, anyway.

So in actuality -- in a full-circle way -- because of their protest, it was probably more visible to the children, because kids, teenagers, tend to look at what they're not supposed to look at. So I think if it's a big deal, just sweep it under the rug, like I did. Next! Moving on.
