First topic message reminder :

Adam Lambert interview with The Examiner's Matt Carter

Adam Lambert talks songwriting, cultural experience

Adam Lambert is evolving from "American Idol", and his Glam Nation Tour is prefect proof of that. Once a hopeful on a reality competition, this performer now has single-handedly worked to bring glam rock back to the forefront. His debut album "For Your Entertainment" has sold over 625,000 copies in the United States alone, and he had a major Billboard Top 10 hit with "Whataya Want From Me".

Now, Adam is getting ready for the Glam Nation Tour, which begins on June 4 in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. I had the opportunity to chat with the singer on Wednesday, and we talked a little bit about his experiences both in writing and traveling around the world.

--

Matt: Hi, Adam.

Adam: Hi there!

Matt: How are you?

Adam: Doing great.

Matt: So I have my first question here from Twitter -- Is it easier to emotionally connect to songs that you were involved in the writing process?

Adam: I think usually when I write music I write from personal experience, so it's definitely a little bit more familiar to me -- whatever emotion I was writing about. But I will also say that every song chosen for the album were songs that I thought everyone would relate to, and if I didn't think I could emote them I wouldn't put them on the album, you know? (Laughs.) I think I can emote all of them, but the ones that I write are obviously the ones that come from a personal experience.

Matt: How has your experience with fans differed around the world? Has communicating with people in Helsinki, for example, differed from people in Japan or here in the States?

Adam: You know, there's definitely cultural differences, but one of the things I've been so fascinated with is no matter where I've gone, there have been fans there that know the music. And I think that's a testament to the universal power of music. I think that music is the universal language, and I think that fans feel the intention of the music, feel the emotion being conveyed and they all react to it.

There's definitely cultural differences -- in Japan, audiences aren't as vocal or as loud until you've finished singing. (Laughs.) After the performance they're really excited, but during it they're just really calm, versus in America where they just dance around during the song. So it's interesting, and there's definitely a universal joy there

Adam Lambert tones down his act
Former 'Idol' runner-up admits AMA performance was a 'little too much.'

the ''American Idol'' runner-up whose sexually explicit performance on the American Music Awards show in November got him bounced off other network appearances, now says he realizes he went too far on that show.

''Maybe with that performance, maybe it was a little too much,'' Lambert said in a telephone news conference Wednesday. ''I think that I am specific, and I am extreme, and sometimes certain people, that's not what they're looking for.''

Lambert said the AMA performance of ''For Your Entertainment,'' in which he rubbed a male dancer's face in his crotch, tongue-kissed a male dancer and dragged a woman around the stage, ''was kind of an artistic experiment, and I learned a lot from it. I learned kind of what my limitations are. I learned what my audience wants to see.''

The performance was roundly criticized as too graphic, and scheduled appearances on ''Good Morning America,'' ''Jimmy Kimmel Live'' and other shows were canceled.

But he says his first headlining tour, Glam Nation, which kicked off Thursday at F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre, will be toned down for general audiences.

''I definitely think they'll be comfortable,'' Lambert said. ''The concert definitely is sexy, but I feel like if anybody felt like that was not tasteful, this is tasteful.''

He said the one-hour show will have ''a thematic through-line,'' with a story running through it, and give the audience ''something to look at; giving them a reason why, OK, this is the next song in the set.''

''It's being visually inspired by kind of like a blend of turn-of-the-century New Orleans meets psychedelic classic rock. I had a lot of fun with my projectionist an my costume designer,'' Lambert said. ''It kind of has its own little world.''

In addition to the songs from his debut album, ''For Your Entertainment,'' Lambert says his show will include one or two ''surprise cover'' songs, which he would not reveal.

Lambert said reaction to the AMA performance was skewed because people wrongly believed that's how all his shows would be. But he noted that on ''American Idol,'' where he finished second to Kris Allen in 2009, he changed from week to week.

The AMAs was ''just one performance'' that, because it was the song ''For Your Entertainment,'' was about ''me expressing my sexuality … which is scary, but healthy.''

But ''I'm more than one type of artist,'' Lambert said.

''I think that for me, I can't sit and make my decisions and worry about, 'Oh, what if people don't like this?' I feel like that's not art,'' he said. ''I think art is just expressing yourself, and being in the music scene you do have to do it with your audience as well. And so I look to my audience and my fans and the people that I encounter on Twitter and in real life, and I see what they like, and I learned that over the tour last summer -- the American Idols Live tour -- that certain things I did, the audience really reacted to, and so I just kind of stick with that.

''And so, if you are looking for it, look this way,'' he said with a laugh.

All eyes on Adam Lambert with KFest

By Sandy Tomcho
Times Herald-Record
Published: 8:22 PM - 06/03/10
Last updated: 8:26 PM - 06/03/10

For the past 16 years, radio station K104 (104.7 FM in Fishkill) has been sponsoring KFest, bringing the "who's who" of pop acts to the Hudson Valley. This year's sold-out concert on Sunday might be its most impressive yet. Rapper Ludacris, 2009 "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert and Train are just a few of the big names on the bill.

Go! reporter Sandy Tomcho spoke with Adam Lambert about his gig and what fans can expect.

Q&A: Adam Lambert

Q. You'll be at KFest Sunday and I was wondering how you're gonna take the headlining tour ("Glam Nation") and translate that into 45 minutes in an outdoor stadium.

A. It's actually gonna be about an hour. My individual set's about an hour and, ya know, it's real exciting. I have a show that I've put together with ... I have like a creative director that I'm working with very closely. She helps me make sure my visions are turned into reality. I have a great band, a group of four dancers and a choreographer and a wonderful costume designer, so we're really trying to take advantage of this hour and put together a show.

It's more than just a typical set. There's like a thematic, kind of emotional story running through the set. There are visual elements that pull it all into one world. I've been inspired by turn-of-the-century, New Orleans kind of a kitschy/glam/black magic, ya know ... voodoo-type concept, and I'm also experimenting in the show with Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead, a holiday celebrated by Latin Americans) and Mardi Gras and things like that. There's a very festive element, a lot of kind of psychedelic rock, classic rock influences as well, and I think people will really be in for a treat.

Q. Can we expect any collaborations on the (headlining) tour this year?

A. As of now, it's pretty much me collaborating with my band and my dancers for the time being. But you never know. Things may change. I never set anything in stone.

Q. Straight up, are people who were up in arms about your American Music Awards performance gonna be comfortable at this show, or should they stay home?

A. I definitely think they'll be comfortable. That was kind of an artistic experiment — the AMAs — and I learned a lot from it. I learned kind of what my limitations are; I learned what my audience wants to see, and the concert definitely is sexy, but I feel like, if anybody felt that that (AMA performance) was not tasteful, this is tasteful.

@miên: lần sau nhớ dẫn link và đừng post hai bài liên tiếp ~

Adam Lambert interview with Ashli Rae

Yesterday I was on a conference call with Adam Lambert and we discussed his album, “For Your Entertainment” and his upcoming Glam Nation Tour which kicks off tomorrow in Pennsylvania.

Ashli Rae: If one of the singles from “For Your Entertainment” was going to blow up and become the biggest hit ever, which one would you want it to be and why?
.
Adam Lambert: I have no idea. I think they’re all great. My current single that just came out is ‘If I Had You’. It’s trickling its way on to Top 40 radio right now. And I think it’s a great song. It’s really positive, it’s upbeat, it’s catchy. It’s about the message in it. I think it’s one of the better messages on the album, which is you can have all this success, the fame, the fortune, the lifestyle but if you’re not connecting and you’re not – and there’s no love in your life and you don’t have true friends and loved ones then it doesn’t mean anything.

Q: Can you tell us more about the show itself? And also the repetoire, what else are we going to hear besides the songs from the album?

AL: There is a surprise cover in there, one or two. But I’m kind of leaving them as wonderful surprises (as a way to place) the show. And then the show itself was actually – it’s being visually inspired by kind of like a blend of turn of the century New Orleans meets like psychedelic classic rock.

Q: I wanted to ask you a little bit more about coming out after Idol. Did you see that as sort of a necessary step to make the transition to being the Idol contestant to sort of launching the rest of your career?

AL: Definitely because for me and my career, I wanted it to be an open book. And for me I was like you know what, I’m just going to be who I’m going to be because it’ll be a hell of a lot easier and I knew that people would know about my sexual preference and my history being in Los Angeles as a performance artist and somebody that had been out and about. So I figured there was no point in keeping a secret. I might as well own it. I’m proud of it and if the audience doesn’t like my sexuality then they can find another artist to look at. It’s not a big deal.

Q: What was your experience like recording (the album) and being able to collaborate with so many talented people?

AL: It was really exciting. I think that for me one of the things that makes getting signed to a major label really exciting is that you have access to working with some of the best producers in the business. And as a lover of pop music I have always realized that that’s really the key is that you bring your talent to the table and your ideas to the table and you can work with people that make things just sound incredible. And so that was probably the highlight for me.

Q: Is there anything you learned about yourself from the first go round with Idol pre - Idol to now, to all that you have now. Anything on a personal level that was a revelation to you about you?

AL: I think that ultimately, I think that trusting my instincts has been kind of the biggest challenge and test since coming off of Idol. It’s a business this music industry and it’s a lot of amazing, talented, very experienced people working in it. And they have their opinions and I have mine and coming to compromises and figuring out what the best plan of action is, is definitely something I’m learning a lot about.

Q: What is something you hope to effectively communicate to fans and potential fans to attend your show?

AL: There is definitely a really strong message of love. I mean as cliche as that sounds, it’s very true. I think that my fans have been incredibly supportive of me and this show is really built for them.

Bài gửiTiêu đề: Re: Tổng hợp tư liệu (bài báo/bài viết/review...) về Adam   Sat Jun 05 2010, 00:05

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/americanidoltracker/2010/06/summer-concerts-may-be-in-a-slump-but-are-idol-tours-recessionproof-.html

This summer’s concert season is shaping up to be one of the most challenging yet for promoters and touring acts alike. Recent weeks have brought news of cancellations across all genres, from Christina Aguilera’s nationwide tour to select dates by the Eagles to the first Country Throwdown festival, which Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman blamed on multiple treks “cannibalizing one another, and someone ends up with lower ticket sales.” Could “American Idol” alumni also be feeling the heat on the road this summer?

Consider how many acts are crisscrossing the country in the coming months: There’s Carrie Underwood’s tour, which plays on through the fall, Chris Daughtry’s band, Daughtry, is closing out an 85-date U.S. and Canada trek at the end of the month, Season 2’s Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard are teaming up for their own three-week outing, kicking off in July, Adam Lambert’s much anticipated GlamNation Tour starts on Friday, and, of course, there’s the "'American Idol' Live!" tour, starring Season 9's Top 10.

Not to mention opening slots by the likes of Season 5’s Kellie Pickler, who hits the road with Rascal Flatts; Season 8 winner Kris Allen, who joins Barenaked Ladies and Maroon 5 for select dates; third-placer Danny Gokey, opening for Sugarland; and fourth-placer Allison Iraheta, warming up for runner-up Adam Lambert. Like all things “Idol,” the competition -- this time, for your dollar -- never ends.

So how are the Idols fairing in a tough economy and a crowded concert market? For the most part, better than their more established peers, with one big question mark: the Top 10 tour. A recent search for available tickets to the August 13 date at L.A.’s Staples Center showed plenty of $76 floor seats still available. Granted, buzz will pick up as the show comes together (rehearsals start next week) and certainly after it kicks off on July 1 in Auburn Hills, Mich., but compared with last year’s Adam Lambert mania, promoters LiveNation, taking over the trek from AEG, may find this more subdued bunch a harder sell.

According to Gary Bongiovanni, editor in chief of concert trade publication Pollstar, last year’s 52-date "'American Idol' Live!" tour grossed just over $30 million and averaged 9,700 seats sold per city. “That’s pretty significant considering you’re talking about people who six months earlier couldn’t have sold out their local nightclub,” said Bongiovanni. “And with a relatively hefty ticket price of $62, which is in line with much more established acts.” In comparison with such acts, it’s the same amount Toby Keith brought in last year, and was No. 42 on 2009’s top 100 tours.

It’s hard to predict how Season 9’s trek will perform this early on, but Bongiovanni says the first place to look for any sort of indication is “Idol’s” ratings. “They may have dipped a little bit, but they’re still very strong,” he said. “This tour has a proven track record of actually being able to translate those TV ratings into hard ticket sales year after year, so I don’t know that it will change that dramatically this year.” To boost sales, LiveNation is also offering no service fees on all amphitheater dates (an average savings of $12 per ticket).

But according to one “Idol” insider, ticket sales for the Top 10’s summer tours have actually varied significantly from year to year. Outings for Season 3, featuring winner Fantasia, and Season 6, which Jordin Sparks won, both underperformed in comparison with Seasons 7 and 8. This, of course, leads to the inevitable question: is it really about having the cute guys on stage for the longest time allowable? And how will Season 9’s Lee DeWyze and Casey James stack up against the likes of, say, David Archuleta and David Cook?

Female fans aside, Bongiovanni says a successful summer trek is all about giving the concert attendee a sense of value, which may be one reason why Clay and Ruben are teaming up. “Putting two names together bolsters what either one of them could do separately,” said Bongiovanni. “Sometimes one and one equals three. … You really need to try and give fans the perception of a good value.” Their L.A. stop at Club Nokia, where they’ll play covers rather than songs from their own albums, also shows floor seats are still available (at $71.50), but with Clay on the media trail and renewing interest in his story (on Wednesday’s “The View,” he declared he “didn't quite realize” he was gay while competing on “Idol;” see video below), expect plenty of ink in the coming weeks.

Ditto for Adam Lambert, who recently revealed details of his GlamNation tour, kicking off Friday night in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., but where Clay and Ruben are entertaining crowds of 2,300, Adam is booked at venues like the Pacific Amphitheatre with a capacity of 8,500, and has already sold out several dates. You might think, what a difference six seasons can make, but Bongiovanni contends that Adam and this tour package, which also includes fellow 19 Entertainment artist Orianthi, is a unique case. “Adam Lambert is so distinctly different than the other artists,” he said. “Normally, you don’t recommend that somebody new go out and headline big rooms because you’re setting yourself up for potential failure, but if he’s able to fill all these places, I would call it a big success.”

Indeed, by forgoing the route of opening for an established act, Adam is skipping a huge step that many Idols take. Time spent on the road with a veteran performer allows a former contestant to see how a tour is run on a major scale, and also to fine-tune his or her own sets and maximize intimacy in a large room.
On the flip side, it can help the headliner too. "We saw the power of 'Idol' with Carrie [Underwood] opening for Kenny [Chesney] and then with Kellie [Pickler] and Brad Paisely," said Joe Gallante, chairman of Sony Music Nashville, who also signed Danny Gokey. "They all saw people showing up that would normally not be there. 'Idol' does build a following; it really helps on the ticket side." Still, the stigma remains for certain artists. "There are some people that don't want to take an Idol out, but generally, I'd say it's a positive."

So who is "Idol’s" touring leader? According to Pollstar, it’s Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood, with Kelly Clarkson not far behind. “Carrie Underwood is probably the most successful [Idol] in terms of a headliner,” said Bongiovanni, “but Daughtry has been somewhat of a delayed reaction, and he has actually proven that he has a following and is continuing to build it.” Indeed, Daughtry’s most recent outing has seen sold-out shows up and down the Eastern Seaboard, including 9,000-seaters in New Jersey and New York.

In the end, whether it’s small venues like L.A.'s Troubadour, where Season 7’s Jason Castro recently headlined (his brother Michael was the opener), or Hotel Café, which has Season 2’s Kimberly Caldwell booked for June 15; casinos; amphitheaters or arenas, the fact that so many Idols can simultaneously tour without cannibalizing each others’ audiences is a huge feat that speaks volumes of "Idol’s" resilience, even during a recession. "David Cook’s last tour had an average gross of $46,263 [per show] -- not bad at all," said Bongiovanni. "There are a lot of well-known acts that would be happy to do that much, and more acts are being booked off ‘American Idol’ than through major record companies. ... That’s legitimate.”

Adam Lambert loses out to Lady Gaga for GLAAD Award

Adam Lambert is quickly working his way up to global superstardom, but sometimes, he just ends up facing some worthy competition. Over the weekend at the GLAAD Media Awards, the "American Idol" singer ultimately ended up losing out to Lady Gaga (who he worked with previously on "Fever") in winning Outstanding Music Artist. Other people nominated included Brandi Carlile and The Gossip.

Both Adam and Gaga have been major supporters of the gay community over the course of the past few years, with both of them doing their parent to give back. Adam did famously have a run-in with Out Magazine at one point, but that was largely due to the politics of representation.

Of course, Adam was not in attendance for the broadcast, as he is currently taking part in the Glam Nation Tour. The singer has the day off Monday, but on Tuesday he will be performing in Crystal Bowersox's hometown of Toledo, Ohio.

Are you hoping that Adam will pick up this sort of honor by GLAAD in the future?

Adam Lambert On Gay Kiss: I Don't Represent The Community

By On Top Magazine Staff
Published: June 07, 2010

In discussing his controversial American Music Awards performance, pop singer Adam Lambert says he doesn't represent the gay and lesbian community.

Lambert's much-ballyhooed performance during the awards show grabbed international headlines for its inclusion of a gay kiss and some man-on-man simulated oral sex.

The 28-year-old American Idol season 8 runner-up came out gay last year on the cover of Rolling Stone.

“I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I'm gay,” he said.

In a cover story for southern California gay biweekly Frontiers, Lambert says he's thrilled with his gay fans, but rejects the notion that he represents the gay community.

“There were some more conservative gays that were like, 'You shouldn't be doing that. You're painting us in a bad light, making us look trashy,'” Lambert told Stephen Horbelt.

“And I remember thinking to myself, as proud as I am to be a member of the gay and lesbian community, it's not my job to paint a picture of the community. I'm only responsible for painting a picture of who I am as an individual. It was a confusing time, because as proud as I am, I'm not here to represent a group. I'm here to be an artist.”

“Luckily, people were supportive and it blew over,” he added.

Idol Lambert: No word from Cowell

ADAM LAMBERT has had no contact with SIMON COWELL since narrowly missing out on winning American Idol last year.
The US pop singer says the British music mogul has given him a wide berth since losing out to KRIS ALLEN in season eight of Cowell's hugely-popular talent show.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, he says: "I've not heard from Simon at all.

"It was amazing to work with him but he doesn't have the same sort of contact with contestants that he does with X Factor in the UK.

"He's a very busy man."

Not that he needs any help.

Adam is currently on a sold-out tour of the States after scoring major success with his debut album For Your Entertainment, is a revelation on Twitter and is preparing to launch an assault on the UK charts with his new single Whataya Want From Me?

He says: "I had to quit my job performing in Wicked to go to American Idol so obviously it was a big risk.

"I was getting by but I really thought I needed to change things up to really see if I could make a name for myself.

"Luckily things have turned out great. The last year has been amazing.

"I obviously didn't win but it was an amazing launch pad for my career and I'm very excited to be coming to the UK.

"It's a great city with great people and I'd like to have some time to see the sights and experience the nightlife."

The end result shows two different sides to the talented singer from San Diego.

He says: "It was an emotionally draining experience. The video shows the two very different sides of my life - personally and professionally.

"It was a long shoot that went on until the early hours. I'm pleased with the final results and happy to give Sun fans a glimpse into the making of the video."

Adam had acting classes in preparation for the video - and is already looking ahead at a possible career in Hollywood.

He says: "It's something I'd love to do. I obviously did a bit of acting when I was in Wicked.

"It would be a dream to share the screen with JULIANNE MOORE. I think she's amazing. Although my talent would be shown up next to her.

"She is incredible."

Italian Interview on Newsic & Beat Magazine

This is the english tranlation of this really nice interview:

Undisputed talent of the recent edition of American Idol, Adam has charmed everyone with his versatility, his powerful voice, with his aesthetic sense that draws openly to glam rock, and even with a pinch of provocation; he could be the American version of Marco Mengoni. We met Adam at his recent exhibition in Zurich.

First of all: how would you describe your music to people who don’t know it yet?
To those that don’t know my music yet, I would describe it as a blend between pop, rock and electronic dance. I really love music from the 70s, the glam rock period and classic rock, but I’m also really fond of pop music from today, so I wanted to kind of blend the two of them together, in some ways. The music on the album is really, really eclectic, there is a very large variety of different sounds, genres, styles and moods and I think it’s good because it takes the listener on a journey.

You co-wrote many tracks on your album, but you also worked with some great names in music like P!nk, Max Martin, Justin Hawkins, Lady Gaga, Matthew Bellamy… how did you make their songs your own, when you didn’t co-write them?
For the songs that I didn’t write on, it was really important for me to make sure that it was a song that the audience, my listeners, would believe coming from me, so lyrically it had to be appropriate and then I went in there and I editorialized on the melody: if the melody was one thing, by the third chorus I would do my own ad libs and change it, make it my own… and I also had a lot of input with the production of the tracks, I got to talk to them about certain sounds, or harmonies, or elements in the music that I wanted louder: it was overall a team effort.

Just like what you did on Idol, your album has such different styles on it and yet everything is so you. Did you always know what your style was or is it something you refined with time and experience?
For me I think that my style is exactly what’s on the album, which is many different things: my style is one of variety. Some artists like to pick one sound and they own it on that and for me… I would get bored doing it that way. I want to have, you know, as much different choices as I can for like a live show. In the album I wanted music that, you know, fit every mood and experience and appealed to every listener, so if you’re a fan of me singing rock type of music you have an handful of tracks that you can buy, if you like the pop stuff you have an handful and if you like all of it, you like all of it. I think that’s what I love about music: you have so many choices.

What was your favorite song to record?
Probably my favorite song to record was “Fever”. I got to record that with Lady Gaga in the studio. She wrote the song and we got together one day in Los Angeles and talked about the music industry, we had like a listening party, we talked about each other’s music, I got to hear the stuff that was going to be coming out on her “Fame Monster” album, that hadn’t been released yet and I played her a bunch of demos from my album and we had some food, had a couple of glasses of whiskey and layed down the track and I had a good time with her, we laughed a lot and it was a really fun day.

You added some dancers to your performances and we heard great things about your tour, the Glam Nation Tour. Are you planning on extending the tour to Europe as well?
My tour this summer is called the Glam Nation Tour and I’m excited because not only do I have my band, but I added dancers to the tour. I’ve always loved choreography. You know, I come from musical theatre as a child, so not only do I sing, but I like to dance and act and put on a full show so I’ll be dancing along with them and hopefully after this summer maybe we’ll be able to bring some performances to Europe, but as of now there’s nothing definite. I’m gonna keep my fingers crossed and hope that you guys like the music enough and demand that I come play live.

With which three contemporary artists would you like to collaborate with the most?
If I had to pick three artists in the contemporary music scene to collaborate with, my first pick would be Christina Aguilera. I think she’s one of the best vocalist out there and I might be a little intimidated to sing with her ‘cause she’s so good, but I think we would sound really good together, so I’d get over it. I’d also like to work with David Bowie. He hasn’t really been much on the scene lately, but he’s still around, and I think he’s a genius and I think we would probably write some amazing music together. And then I think another artist that would be amazing to collaborate with is Prince. I think that would be a very interesting end result. Really funky and really purple.

Which question that you’ve never been asked would you like to answer?
You know, it’s funny. I keep getting asked “Is there anything we don’t know about you?” or “Is there a question that nobody ever asked you” and I think at this point everybody’s asked anything. I’m an open book and that’s the way I like to live my private life and now my public life. I don’t like to change it much for my audiences. I’m very honest and I think I’ve been asked everything and I think I’ve answered everything so if you guys can think of something let me know but it’s all out in the open.

Do you have any messages for your Italian fans?
Italy, I love you from afar. I’ve only been in Bologna one time for a week and I really, really, really wanna see Italy. I wanna see so many of the cities. I wanna Milan and Rome and… you name it. I’m coming so please, learn the songs and maybe I’ll come out there real soon and I’ll perform them and I would love to hear you guys singing along and getting all dressed up with your glitter and your nail polish and your eye make-up and ladies and gentlemen it would be a lot of fun to come sing for you so I hope to be there very soon. Ciao!

Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert (28) quickly became a celebrity when he participated in the eighth season of American Idol. He didn’t win the talent show, but due to his extravagant appearance and him being openly gay he received more attention than winner Kris Allen. STARS spoke with Glambert in his hotel room when he was in the Netherlands for a lightening visit to promote his hit What Ya Want From Me.

Who?

Adam Lambert was born January 29 in the American state Indiana and he grew up in San Diego, California, where he moved to shortly after his birth. Early on it was clear he was a born entertainer. ‘At school, at home, with friends… I was always performing. I even re-enacted scenes from The Little Mermaid. Everyone said I had to do something with it. When I turned ten I got my first part in a play and I knew then that I belonged on the stage.’

Faggot

Classmates thought he was weird. ‘Guys were supposed to play basketball or baseball and not sing and act. Sometimes they called me names like ‘faggot’ but I was never really bullied which was probably because I avoided getting close to those bullies.

Coming out

After he finished school at 18, it was time for a change. ‘A new school, a new start. I finally dared to tell those close to me that I was gay. I was terrified of the reactions because no one I knew was openly gay. Luckily everyone responded fantastically.’ Adam moved to Orange County to start his college education, but studying didn’t turn out to be his thing. ‘I wanted to be an artist and for that you have to be in LA. I decided to chase my dream and quit my studies after five weeks. I moved to LA and worked in several different jobs to pay my bills.’

Drag Queen

Nothing was shocking in LA and so Adam started wearing makeup. ‘I experimented with it in my room when I was younger, but I always quickly removed it afterwards. In LA I could finally do what I wanted. I met a lot of beautiful drag queens in the gay scene and thought that was fantastic. I became a sort of drag boy and walked around in huge platform boots and wore outfits Lady Gaga would be jealous of.’

A star is born

His career was slowly progressing. With a couple of friends he formed the glamrock band The Citizen Vein and they performed frequently. For the first time he could make a living from his music. Further he got different parts in musicals like in Hair and Wicked and he performed regularly in The Zodiac Show, a popular cabaret.

Coming to Holland

When Adam was in Berlin for the musical Hair in 2003, he got four days off. He immediately jumped in a car to go to Amsterdam. ‘That was really great. So great I don’t quite remember. Well, I do remember, but I’m not gonna tell!’

American Idol

At the age of 27 Adam assessed his life. Did he want to continue his work in musicals and stuff? ‘I was missing something. Some sort of moment. And then I saw an American Idol commercial with a call for new talent. I switched on my laptop and signed up.’ The rest is history. The judges loved Adam and judge Paula Abdul predicted in the first live show that Adam would make it to the finale. Adam himself remained cool. ‘Every show I expected to be voted off. I thought America wasn’t waiting for someone like me. I’m a little weird and chubby and not exactly a girl’s idol.’ But America loved Adam from the very start. When he became the runner-up, that fact caused a riot, because the winner, Kris Allen, wasn’t vocally as good as Adam. Did his sexuality keep him from winning? ‘Maybe, but luckily I got a record deal afterwards. It didn’t really matter to me whether I’d won or not. I just felt my life had positively changed.’ And it had. Adam conquers the world while Kris… what does he actually do?

Weird

Fame has already provided Adam some very nice things: money, free clothes and lots of fans. ‘I get emails from young girls, but also from older guys. From a beautiful drawing to strange things such as sex toys and worn ladies underwear… The other day I got a bathing suit from an older woman. She wanted me to wear it and then take a picture. Why would I want to do that? Yuck!’

Criticism

Strangely enough Adam receives most criticism from the gay community. ‘Makeup is for women and would give the gays in America a bad name. Bullshit! Recently I got scolded by other gays. WTF?! Straight people aren’t really afraid anymore of some eyeliner and eye shadow. Look at Bill Kaulitz, David Beckham and Christiano Ronaldo.’

Love

Adam is a happy single guy. He isn’t hard to chat up, but he is hard to ‘keep’. Who wouldn’t he mind waking up next to? ‘I love Gossip Girl. Not only because the series is really good, but also because it features Chace Crawford. Man, he’s hot!’

ADAM LAMBERT INTERVIEW WITH THE MUSIC FIX

International pop sensation, Adam Lambert, called TMF's Joe for a natter about boats, Bowie and boys.

Where are you at the moment?

I am in Norfolk, Virginia.

How’s the tour going?

It’s good! It’s really good. The audiences have been sold out every time, every venue we’ve been at. It’s really exciting. I’m having a blast.

Cool. How do you find life on the road?

It’s good. It’s a lot of work. I mean, it is hard.

Do you ever get chance to relax?

Yeah. I had a day off yesterday. It was really great. Some of my band and my dancers rented a fishing boat and, you know there’s not a lot to do in Norfolk, Virginia so we were like, “ok, What can we do?”. So, we found this boat and cruised around Chesapeake Bay and did some fishing and, you know, why not?

Yeah, sounds fun. You’ve got a really, really passionate fan base. What’s the strangest thing one of your fans has done?

Erm, you know I get interesting gifts sometimes. Like, I get really sweet gifts but then sometimes it’s like handmade tchotchkes and you’re like “ok...thanks?”.

Do you find there’s a lot of pressure on you? Like, the whole tour is on your head?

The pressure hasn’t gotten to me. I’m fortunate for that. When I get up on stage I do realise that if I’m not feeling it...it’s all on my shoulders. I definitely step up to the plate when I hit the stage. I have to. It can be draining in that regard, but it’s hard to mind because the audiences have been so intense. They give you a lot of energy.

Do you ever miss your Broadway days?

Not yet. Part of the reason I wanted to go into this was because I wanted to be myself on stage. I wanted to be my own artist and I think that that’s been the most important part.

Is there anything in your career that you want to do, but haven’t yet had the opportunity?

I would like to do some acting work, but I haven’t yet and there isn’t anything booked. It’s something that I’m curious about. I think it’d be really cool to be in a film.

If you were to undergo a dramatic pop transformation (ala David Bowie, Madonna etc), what would you like to reinvent yourself into?

I don’t know. I guess if I wanted to do something really drastic, I’d go the complete opposite way from all the glam. You know? Do something really conservative just for the F*** of it, you know?

Yeah, just you and a piano?

Yeah. In a plain suit and no make-up...But you know what, I’ve done that before. I don’t know if it would surprise anybody. That was kind of my schtick on Idol.

Is there anyone who you’d like to collaborate with?

I’ve been really fortunate already, but I think it would be really amazing to collaborate with David Bowie. I think that would be incredible, but I think he’s pretty M.I.A.

So, I read on Wikipedia that you’re “the first openly gay mainstream pop artist to launch a career on a major label in America”. Do you feel any responsibility to represent gay people in the American mainstream?

Not really. That’s definitely been an interesting point. I feel like, I’m honoured to be a part of that community and I’m honoured to be identified as the first blah-blah-blah-blah, but I think the thing about it is the only person I’m responsible for representing is myself. I think that it’s kind of ignorant to assume that just because I am one of the few, I have to represent a whole group of people.

It’s interesting that there are so few openly gay people in the American media. You can only assume there are people who hide their sexuality. Do you think it’s hard for people to be gay in the American media?

Yeah, it’s really hard. I think there’s a reason why a lot of people in the entertainment industry are private about it. It becomes so exploited and sensationalised by the media in general. It’s all anybody wants to talk about. There is good that comes from that, because it raises visibility, it’s good for young people growing up who maybe need role models. I see that there is good that comes from it, but I also think that it can quickly overshadow the product that I have, which is music. Who I’m in bed with on my private time doesn’t mean that this is a good song or a bad song, you know what I mean?

Do you think it might affect the number of female fans you’ve got?

I actually think it’s probably picked me up more female fans. It’s a catch-22. There’s probably the girl who’s like, “Oh he’s gay, so I’m not into it” and there’s the next girl that’s like “oh, he’s gay, I like that”.

And like you say, it should really be your songs that you’re judged on.

Yeah, I think the people that are listening to my music are there because they like my music.

Are you in a relationship at the moment?

No, I’m single.

What kind of guy do you go for?

Pretty boys. (cá bao nhiêu cũng cá câu này được trả lời ngay tắp tự ko cần suy nghĩ =)) )

Will you be going to any pride festivals?

My schedule is like PACKED, so probably no pride festivals this year. I was really excited that I got to close gay pride in Sydney though, a couple of months back. That was really fun.

Tell me about your single, ‘Whataya Want From Me’.

Yeah. It was written by Pink, and Max Martin. It’s a great song. I think it holds a really universal message which is that moment in any sort of relationship which is, “I like you, but I’m overwhelmed and I’m vulnerable right now and it’s kind of freaking me out. I need a second”. I think it’s something we can all relate to.

What have you got coming up in the near future?

I’m on tour here in the States until September and then we go international. We go over to Asia, South Pacific, Australia, New Zealand and then we do Japan and then we go over to the UK. => túm lại là tour triền miên :))

How rich is Adam Lambert?

At this point in his career it's a little hard to tell. Unlike movie and TV stars who usually have their project salaries leaked online (Robert Pattinson was paid $7.5 Million for Twilight: Eclipse, Charlie Sheen makes $44 Million a season) musical acts are a little harder to gauge.

But there is some information online that gives an idea.

First of all, just being a Top 10 finalist on American Idol guarantees income from union contract appearance fees that bring in $1,000 to $2,000 a week. That's because the competition tunes they sing on the show are picked up by iTunes and the songs they sing in the opening number on the results show are covered by AFTRA rules.

In addition, the Top 10 go out on a national tour that is steadily increasing in revenue and last year Randy Jackson revealed the number is up to about $250,000 - each.

Winning American Idol guarantees a million dollar recording contract when endorsements and advances are figured in. Record sales above that bring in even more cash.

But Adam Lambert didn't win American Idol.

No worries. According to The New York Times, "the winner is not the only contestant who earns after the show. Last year the runner-up — Adam Lambert, whose first-week album sales were more than double those of Kris Allen — earned $300,000 in advance royalties for his first album, a $75,000 merchandising contract and $50,000 in fees from Disney World for the Idol Experience attraction."

OK... so far that's $425K, PLUS the estimated $250K for the tour... that means that by being the runner up on Idol Adam Lambert earned an estimated $675,000 bucks!

This past year since AI ended Adam has enjoyed spectacular record sales and he has launched his first "GlamNation" tour that's been steadily adding dates and causing other tracks on the album to pick up steam and add to his revenue stream.

So what's the total?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the current estimate of Adam's wealth is... $5 Million Bucks!

Not bad for a "loser"
Way to go Adam! Keep up the good work!

Adam Lambert and Carrie Underwood - The Most Downloaded American Idol Artists

Adam Lambert and Carrie Underwood – The Most Downloaded American Idol Artists. News has emerged that both Adam Lambert and Carrie Underwood are the most downloaded artists of all time from the hit U.S. TV show, American Idol.

Last week, Carrie Underwood continued to be the leader of all American Idol winners when the amount of downloads for her single “Undo It” reached a huge 50,000 downloads. However, word has now emerged from Nielson SoundScan that Adam Lambert saw a huge increase in the amount of downloads for his latest single this week.

Adam Lambert’s single is said to have had a sales increase of 59% from last week to this week which has brought the cumulative total of downloads for the single around 55,000. This makes him the most downloaded artist of all time from the American Idol talent show winners. smile7

Adam Lambert has had an array of hit songs including Whataya Want from Me, which actually sold over 1.3 million downloads. Carrie Underwood has also had a variety of hits including Cowboy Casanova which reached just over 1.4 million downloads. These records make these two the most downloaded artists from American Idol, selling millions of download’s between them.
